Oils, Fats & Waxes
The emollient properties of these are used to soften & soothe the skin. They help maintain moisture, supply essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals to the skin. They are often used as the base of the product.

I do not use any Parabens, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hydroxymethylglycinate, Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Unigerm, Suttocide that can interfere with your endocrine system. Nor do I use any Neurotoxic preservatives like phenoxyethanol, Harsh surfactants like sodium, ammonium and lauryl/laureth sulfates, Petrochemicals, including PEGs, paraffin and other glycols, Silicones, Mineral oils, artificial fragrances or colours, grain alcohols, Phthalates, Bisphenol-A (BPA), Genetically modified or irradiated ingredients or animal derivatives found in many skin care products.
My ingredients that I use are natural ingredients with no nasties to soothe & nourish your skin.

Apricot kernel oil (Prunus armeniaca) - Apricot Kernel Oil offers light texture, significant absorption & moisture retention without leaving an oily feeling. Nourishing and revitalizing properties popular in for dry or aged skin. It is beneficial in relieving the itchiness and is suitable for sensitive skin. High in oleic acid and rich in Vitamin A and minerals.

Carrot oil (Daucus carota) - Carrot oil is full of beta carotene (vitamin A). It helps with cell regeneration, is beneficial after injuries to reduce scars, replenish, rebuild and rejuvenate skin. It is a very effective treatment of various skin burns, eczema and dermatitis, as well as having the ability to lessen the visibility of wrinkles and uneven skin tone. Rich in essential fatty acids which greatly benefit the skin through improved moisturisation, elasticity, and softness. Contains beta-carotene, which is a key nutrient for maintaining healthy skin and assisting skin cell renewal and repair. Beta-carotene also helps to repair and protect the skin from various forms of sun damage.

Coconut triglycerides (caprylic/capric triglyceride) Helps condition the skin providing noticeable silkiness, contains antioxidant properties, high in essential fatty acids and offers the skin nurturing benefits. Especially suited to sensitive skin. It is made by specialized esterification of Coconut Oil using just the Caprylic and Capric Fatty Acids creating a light, silky oil, feel that is not at all greasy / oily feeling on the skin due to the skin loving nature of the specific fatty acid esters not seen with common Fractionated Coconut Oil, or other carrier oils.

Evening primrose oil (Oenothera biennis) – High in gamma-linoleic acid and linoleic acid essential for cell structure and to improve the elasticity of the skin. It is beneficial as an anti-aging support. It is an anti-inflammatory and useful in the management of psoriasis, eczema, acne, dry skins, strains and muscle tears.

Organic cocoa butter (Theobroma cacao) moisturising, improves skin health, supports aging, soothes, softens, reduces inflammation, high concentration of antioxidant compounds, including oleic acid, palmitic acid, and stearic acid. Helps to neutralize free radicals especially in the skin, reducing the occurrence of oxidative stress, cocoa butter can help reduce the signs of aging, including wrinkles and age marks. Research has also shown cocoa butter to reduce the appearance of scars on the skin and help to boost overall skin health.

Organic Jojoba oil (Simmondsia chinensis) – Highly penetrating wax, closely resembling human sebum. It is easy absorbing and provides amazing moisturising qualities. The oil reaches deep to destroy bacteria and dissolve dried sebum, it revitalises, soothes, and regenerates the skin. Suitable for sensitive, oil, young, dry and aging skin. Providing effective treatments for a variety of skin conditions. Jojoba also carries natural antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, hypoallergenic and analgesic qualities and is high in vitamin A, D & E.

Organic Shea butter (Butyrospermum parkii) - moisturising lipid (fat) that helps alleviate a variety of skin conditions and provide suppleness to the skin. Unrefined Shea butter contains Vitamins A, K, E and F, minerals and antioxidants, can be used externally or internally. Natural occurring Vitamins in Shea butter help the skin stay clear and healthy, they help heal and prevent sun damage to the skin, prevent wrinkles and facial lines (which makes Shea butter great for anti ageing). Vitamins in unrefined Shea body butter protect the skin and rejuvenate tissue cells (this also means they help treat damaged skin conditions and skin irritations). Shea butter is effective for scars, dark circles around your eyes, visible spider veins and stretch marks, extremely dry skin, chapped skin, eczema, and psoriasis.

Other emollients

Glyceryl stearate - Acts as a lubricant on the skin's surface, which gives the skin a soft and smooth appearance. It also slows the loss of water from the skin by forming a barrier on the skin's surface. - Low hazard for health. Plant derived, biodegradable.

Cetearyl alcohol - A mixture of two 'fatty' alcohols, Cetearyl Alcohol is an emollient (moisturizer) and a viscosity increasing agent (increases the 'thickness' of a substance). Low hazard for health. Plant derived, biodegradable.
Sodium stearoyl glutamate – Skin conditioning agent. Low hazard for health. Plant derived, biodegradable

Vegetable glycerine - present in all natural lipids (fats). It draws moisture up through skin layers and slows or prevents excessive drying and evaporation. It is especially used for people with skin irritations. Low hazard for health. Plant derived, biodegradable

Infused Oils/Macerated Oils
These are made by soaking the dried herbal matter in the base oil for an extended period of time, to allow the active constituents of the plant to pass into the oil. The plant matter is then strained out of the oil and the infused oil is used as a base in creams or oil products made by Nourishe Skincare.

Herbs used in Infused Oils

Calendula (Calendula officinalis) - It is rich in Vitamin E and C which promotes skin healing and supports collagen growth. Calendula is an antiseptic, healing, soothing, anti-inflammatory plant used to treat itching, flaking, weeping skin conditions, burns, rashes, inflammation and sensitive skin.
Carrot oil (Daucus carota sativa root) - is rich in vitamins A and E, beta carotene and carotenoids. Carotenoids have been found to enhance the body’s ability to protect the skin from UVR damage. Carotenes are strong free radical blockers, so this is an ideal oil to add to anti-ageing preparations. It is said to be a great cellular revitalising oil and a natural antioxidant, making it a favourite oil for healthy skin.
Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) – Comfrey has a high content of vitamin C, carotene, B12, chlorophyll and calcium. The extract also contains allantoin, which helps stimulate new cell growth, accelerate healing and soothe inflamed or irritated skin. It contains gamma linoleic acid (essential fatty acid useful in reducing and fading old scars and soothing dry and damaged skin.

Gotu kola (Centella asiatica) – Supports circulation in the skin and is beneficial for healing, encouraging new cell growth, reducing skin irritation and providing anti-inflammatory actions.
​
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) – Antiseptic and anti-inflammatory it is excellent in fighting acne, reducing the swelling and redness. It is also known for increasing the flow of oxygen and nutrients to skin cells, boosting their renewal process, thus reducing the signs of aging.
​
Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) – Anti-inflammatory & antioxidant. It contains constituents that interrupt the stimulation of an enzyme that activates melanin production, so can be effective for improving dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Shown to have efficacy against acne-causing bacteria. Contains glabridin which is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredient, which supports sensitivity, & helps reduce reddened skin and pigmentation. Licorice is very effective for soothing eczema and dermatitis due to its natural cortisone properties.

Meadowfoam seed oil (Limnanthes alba) - Contains over 98% long-chain fatty acids, when applied to the skin, it forms a moisture barrier and will assist the skin with preventing moisture loss, moisturizing, and maintaining moisture retention in the skin.

Oregon grape (Berberis aquifolium) - Antibacterial, soothing, calming on the skin & helps reduce & heal eczema and psoriasis.

St John (Hypericum perforatum) – Helps reduce inflammation, irritated skin conditions, burns, bruises, nerve pain & supports wound healing (Can cause some sun photosensitivity)

Sunflower oil (Helianthus annuus) is one of the most versatile oils available for personal care products as it is high in both Linoleic and Oleic Acids. This combination makes it a relatively stable but naturally nourishing oil. It has excellent emollient properties and is rich in Vitamin E which is an important antioxidant for the protection of oils in our skin.

Essential Oils & Other Ingredients
​Are used topically so they can penetrate and absorb into the skin to provide beneficial effects, they also absorb into the bloodstream and are inhaled which means they also benefit us on an emotional level.
​
I do not use any synthetic fragrances.

Frankincense (Boswellia ssp.) – Frankincense has anti-aging qualities helping improve the tone of aging skin, antiseptic, astringent, regenerative and skin healing properties that assists in healing wounds, supporting the skin's integrity, reducing scars, balancing the sebum and reducing skin inflammation, it also helps support anxiety and stress.

Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) – Antiseptic, astringent, & skin healing properties. Helps balance sebum making it useful for oily or combination skin complexions, it encourages wound healing, improves broken capillaries, spider and varicose veins and helps nourish and re-hydrate dry and mature skin. Geranium is an uplifting, mood regulator, beneficial in stress, balancing hormones and relaxing.

Jasmine (Jasminum grandiflorum) – Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and skin healing properties. Beneficial for balancing skin, supporting dry or irritated skin, improves the condition of mature skin & is an aphrodisiac and is beneficial for mood support.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) – Antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and has skin healing properties that is excellent in fighting acne, reducing the swelling and redness. It is also known for increasing the flow of oxygen and nutrients to skin cells, boosting their renewal process, thus reducing the signs of aging and burns. It is great to soothe inflamed skin conditions such as eczema dermatitis, psoriasis, helping skin heal and reducing itchiness. Lavender is harmonising and calming on the nervous system, helps reduce stress, irritability, pain and distraction.

Mandarin (Citrus reticulata) – Carminative & depurative. Mandarin helps reduce stretch marks, fluid retention and reduce acne, it is very calming and soothing builds confidence and brings happiness.

Neroli (Citrus aurantium var. amara) - Antifungal, antimicrobial. It helps reduce scars, redness, irritation, beneficial for all skin types especially dry, sensitive skin and broken capillaries. Neroli helps support immunity, is a mood elevator, very calming, and lifts the spirits.
​
Roman chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) – The gentlest of the essential oils, beneficial for sensitive, red or dry skin. It is used for pain and inflammation, to calm tension and anxiety.
​
Rose (Rosa damascene) - Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, astringent. It is an excellent emollient, softening and hydrating the skin, ideal for all skin types - especially mature & sensitive skin. With its astringent properties it is beneficial for treatment on broken capillaries, redness & inflammation. Rose oil Improves skin texture & is a mood elevator.

Ylang ylang (Cananga odorata var.) - Antiseptic, circulatory, helps soften and balance moisture in the skin's sebum. Calms nervous tension and supports a positive mood.

Preservatives
Preservatives are added into anything that is susceptible to bacterial growth (skin care, cosmetics & food). I only use natural preservatives.
​
Benzyl alcohol - Benzyl Alcohol is an organic alcohol found in many fruits and teas used as a preservative.
​
Dehydroacetic acid (ecocert approved preservative) is used as a preservative to stop anything growing in the creams, antibacterial and fungicide.
​
Vitamin E (tocopherol) – Antioxidant that prevents oxidation and rancidity of oils by protecting against free radicals that can lead to damage of collagen and cause skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles and other environmental damaging effects.

Water - Water provides a moisture factor in products.
